Just wanted to say thank you for the lumber and the story behind it. I am still working on the base, but have finished the table top. The wood was great to work with. I chose to use a scraper rather than sand so was able to keep the texture and variations in the lumber. I used ebony filler in the nail, bolt and knot holes and finished it with General Finishes Enduro Var satin. It went on very smoothly and three coats dried down so you can still appreciate the wood texture.
